Rachael is introduced in the story at age five. At this point in her life she can only see her guardian angel Aroneese. She has been able to see him unlike other humans since the day she was born shortly after she opened her eyes for the first time as a human. Her first encounter with Aroneese happened in the Chamber of Souls.
Since Rachael comes from a Catholic background she found it hard to discuss the things she experienced and saw with others. It was the belief and the guidance of her grandmother that allowed her the freedom to share what she was seeing, hearing and feeling that helped her feel grounded in both worlds.
Her world slowly begins to change at five when she prays to God to become a warrior angel to protect the Earth from harm. Shortly after her prayer has been granted she gains the ability to hear the voice of her guardian angel. But with this gift also comes the ability to interact with all supernatural creatures.
This photo shows Rachael at the beginning of her true journey at the age of 15. She leaves Earth and is taken to the planet Junus. She is physically transformed and becomes a human angel hybrid. She is taught magic and begins to interact with different species.
The Rachael Chronicles focuses on her life and the lives of her companions. This view allows the reader to understand the complexities of her life and gives rich meaning and depth to the events that unfold around her. In book one Rachael faces lots of pain and adversity. She finds joy and accomplishment. She evolves into something new and embraces her role as a leader. And as she sometimes stumbles through the challenges before her she finds strength and understanding of who she is and what she is to become.
Paula gained her ability to see and hear supernatural creatures at the age of 16. As a young girl she began to have dreams of Barius which lead her on a path to pray to God to become a warrior angel. Once she realized these dreams were of a fallen angel she quickly brushed them aside transferring her feelings towards her guardian angel Hector.
Paula was raised as a Southern Baptist. Due to her dreams and her interactions with the supernatural she became very secretive and closed off with others. As a young child she feared being judged insane or being considered touched by the devil. So, she was never completely open and honest about everything even with her own guardian angel.
Within a short period of time Hector prepared her for her journey to Junus and the new life ahead of her. In this picture we see Paula fully transformed into a human angel hybrid.
Even though she has accepted Rachael as their leader she often brings conflict to the group and a different perspective.
Paula has noticed as time goes by an emotional pull towards darkness. She has kept it at bay and she fears her intense connection with Barius. This fear at times makes her vulnerable and susceptible to outside forces. She is strong, sharp, and as intense as her blade.
Ray is the only male Chosen. He was born and raised on a small island off the coast of Cuba. At the age of ten Ray prayed to God to become a warrior angel and his request was granted. His guardian angel Lailah worked tirelessly with him from that point to prepare him for his new life on Junus and keep him protected on Earth. Around the time he first began seeing and hearing his guardian angel he also started having strange dreams.
Ray was born to a family that practices Voodoo. They are traditionalists that believe in the light as well as the dark. For this reason magic comes naturally to Ray. He considered the dreams visions and always felt comfortable in knowing that somehow they were real.
He discussed them with his guardian and started writing them down in a journal. Later upon meeting the other Chosen he found that the dreams were the battles scenes between the fallen angel Barius and the guardian angel Aroneese.
He soon began to realize he was seeing things from Barius' point of view. Almost as if he could see through Barius' eyes. This link between the two later became problematic for the both of them.
Even though Barius learned how to manipulate the link first in book one Ray found that controlling it from his side was fair play.
Lucy prayed to Buddha to become a warrior that could protect the whole Earth at the age of 9. Soon after she began to see her guardian angel Oden. She did not gain the ability to hear him or see other paranormal creatures until she was 11 years old.
For the next five years Oden prepared her to go to the warrior school on Junus.
The day before leaving the Earth she had her first encounter with Barius. She was shocked to see him in real life after having dreams about him in her early teens. Fortunately, she kept no secrets from Oden and was fully prepared to deal with Barius when he appeared.
Lucy is brave, strong, and loyal. She has a strong sense of justice and an overpowering connection with the essence of all life. Due to her Buddhist background Lucy found it easy to make the transition between the normal and the paranormal considering herself to be blessed and touched by the light of Buddha.
Throughout her childhood she worried more for her own guardian angel and his sense of insecurity than herself. Because Oden is a mix between a male fallen warrior angel and a female warrior angel for Buddha he was faced with some prejudice at an early age and has never recovered from it.
Barius was born to the warrior class of angels just shortly after both his parents decided to leave God's side. In general the male parent is responsible for raising a child from a mating pair. Barius' father only raised him for the first forty years of his life. Therefore, Barius was just a small child in angel years when his father was severely punished for an infringement on time, space, and the destruction of an entire species.
He was turned into a leviathan and cast into the depths of the ocean inside of Earth. Locked in a magical cave only his wife was permitted visits but these were not often. Barius was shuttled off to live and be raised by his uncle Tomothian. Tomothian taught Barius the ways of a warrior. He taught him to be kind and just.
When Barius reached the age of adulthood after finishing warrior school something happened. His best friend died in his first battle. Barius had a hard time dealing with the grief and the death of his friend. He pulled away from his other friends and ran into his mother for the first time. His mother influenced Barius and persuaded him to turn against God. After making the decision to fall from grace God changed the path of Barius' life mate and sent her soul to be born on Earth.
In his determination to find his soul mate Barius sought help from the Watcher of Time. She sent him on a complicated quest allowing him access to Earth to find his mate. He was told his mate was the Chosen so he knew she was special. He decided never to be separated from someone he loved the way his parents were. He hated the loneliness and the loss of his friend and was determined to be together with his soul mate for all of time no matter what it took.
He knew she would be human but he also knew their were ways to extend a human life. He would make sure she never left him.....ever.
In book one Barius finds the Chosen, but instead of one woman he finds three. If he makes the wrong choice his soul mate will die. Regardless, he is determined never to be alone and is told an alternative method to keeping the one he will pick.
In the end free will be damned!
